Westwoods Trails Meeting
November 18 , 2002

Approval/Corrections minutes: A couple of changes to minutes requested: in GLTC section replace fundraising projects in point b with - GLTC is planning neighborhood gatherings to educate the public about land trust issues. In GLTC section replace the Yacht Club in point d with Spencer Creek Preserve. In GLTC section replace gate in point e. with chain. Minutes approved.

Resignations/New Members/Members news: Two new Guilford High School students attending their first meeting. Sean Nesto and Adam Rosati.

GLTC Report: Susan Kukle
-a. There will be a Land Trust brochure going out I a week or two
-b. There are plans for meetings to be held in Guilford Schools to help educate the community about GLTC. One coming up soon at Melissa Jones School.
-c. The hike on November 16 was rained out and rescheduled for November 22 beginning @ 10:00am at the Bluff Head parking lot.
-d. There will be GLTC T-shirts available for fundraising.

Trail Reports:
Westwoods: Paul Proulx: White Circle south of power lines; 54 more trees just south of power lines taken down. 14 hours Paul Proulx, Peter Johnson, Sandy Porter. Dia Robinson: White Circle north of power lines; the plank walk will need help soon, but is still stable. Bob Handschumacher: Yellow Circle and Purple; Removed signs from Moose Hill and preparing new signs, cleared glass from Cable Rock section. And cut down 18 trees. 10 hours.
Paul Trail: No report
Kampmeyer: Susan Kukle was at Kampmeyer today and said there are some bridges needed and the ones in place need repair. There don't seem to be any trees that need attention but blazing needs to be done for the trail at the end of Janeway.
Eastwoods: Sally reported 3 hours of work on maps copying them and comparing them in preparation for a connecting trail to Nut Plains.
Hoadly Creek: No Report
Spencer Creek: No Report

Work Parties: Westwoods October 26, 2002. Paul Proulx, Matt Richerson, Mary Richerson, Sandy Porter met at the Sam Hill entrance, walked and cleared the White Circle to Lost Lake.

Old Business: Nut Plains: there are bridges needed, and the blazing needs to be finished on the White Circle. State Forester Huber Urlock will be walking the White and Orange Trails from Sam Hill to power lines on Saturday December 7th @ 9:30 am to review for opening these trails. Paul will also ask him to mark the trees on state land that are on the Yellow circle and Violet Circle from the Moose Hill entrance.

New Business: Shelly Green from the Nature Conservancy gave a short talk. Shelly reminded us that the Nature Conservancy focuses on protecting habitats and biodiversity. She spoke about the challenges of designing trails systems and the complexities of recreational ecologies. Shelly has offered her ongoing support and expertise. Joe Ortoleva and Paul Proulx are updating the membership list.
