Trails Meeting
April

Meeting began: 7:35 PM

GLTC Report:
Shelley
Green and Susan Kukle Bill Johnson has been using the term Northwoods
to describe the
Braemoore, Bluffhead, and Blue Trail network of trails in North Guilford.
Several people  vocalized
support for the term. The Myer-Huber property was transferred from the
Nature   Conservancy
to the GLTC. The CT Forest and Park Association (CFPA) has scheduled the
 annual
Trail Maintainence workshop for May 3rd.
Trail Reports
Westwoods:
- Team
A: no report
- Team
B: no report
- Team
C: Red square (3.5 hours) Susan Kukle reported that the trail is fine.
Red Diamond (17 hours)
Paul Proulx, Peter Johnson, Kevin Smith, and Sandy Porter cut down and
removed 69  trees
from the trail.
- Nature
Trail (4 hours) Dia Robinson and Julie Sengstachen reblazed the number
markers. Also see
details of work partyon the Nature Trail to follow.
Nut Plains: No report.
Paul Trail: No report.
Kampmeyer:(2 hours) Joe Kaufman reported that the trail is clear
and needs reblazing.
Eastwoods: Dia has made mailers for all the neighbors in the vicinity
of the Eastwoods Trail.   Someone
has taken down and removed the sign.
Hoadly Creek: no one had a trail report ,but Sally mentioned that
there are frequently several cars parked
at the entrance.
Spencer Creek: No report.
Work Parties:
(12
hours) The sites for the 40 location markers were chosen. The Nature Trail
for Hikers Only signs
were put up. Mary Richerson wrote up a description of the Nature Trail
for the CT Walking Guide
Book. Paul submitted it along with the GPS data.
Old Businesss:
- Paul
reported that 100 of approx 118 trees in the eastern half of the Red Diamond
trail have been cut.
- Sally
spoke about the ATV crackdown on the Northwoods trails. Any hikers seeing
any ATV's on
the trail are asked to report their presence, especially if the riders
can be identified. There will be
groups walking the trails regularly in an attempt to discover who is riding
there.
- Kevin
Smith and Matt Richerson are working on a website for the Westwoods Trails.
They are looking
for a sponsor for the site. It was mentioned that Bill Bloss was working
on a GLTC web site
and it was suggested that he could be approached for a discussion about
possibly   combining
efforts.
- Susan
went to the April 22nd Greenway Trail Meeting: There is to be an election
of corporate directors
on Tuesday April 29th. She also walked on the Westwoods Trails of interest
to the  committee
along with John Monroe from the National Park Association, and Peter Patten
who designs
trails and trail systems. She appreciated their vision. Peter Patten will
be speaking on June
10th at the annual GLTC meeting in the Community Center at 7:30pm.
- Blazing:
paint was distributed
New Business:
On
June 9th the end of the year meeting will be held at Paul's house on 10
Riverside Court at  6:00pm.
Paul will provide pasta and chicken and everyone else can supply salads,
drinks and desserts.
