Trails Meeting
June
21 , 2003
Guilford
Community Center
MINUTES OF MEETING 6/9/03 held at Paul's house:
Website development is going well. Kevin & Matt promise to work on it
this summer.
Next year's projects include:
1.) A walk to assess whether or not we should maintain the red square
and the lower blue rectangle, green circle & yellow triangle or let them
go natural.
2.) Reassessment of the yellow circle. There are lots of dead hemlocks
on the main trail. Should we eliminate the dangerous cliffside trails
& streamline the main trail or have bypass trails to avoid dangerous main
route.
3.) Westwoods is 40 years old! Should we have a picnic at Table Rock?
Shelly will help us study erosion, abandonment of certain trails & preservation
of wild areas. We have been remiss in identifying rare species to preserve.
Reprinting of the Map-we will do one more printing of the old one then
add Eastwoods. Probably need to change trails a little bit. We talked
about getting new road maps from the town and superimposing our trails
onto them as an inexpensive alternative to buying a mapping program (and
learning how to use it).
Shoreline Greenway-Seems like they have more problems than they can handle.Too
much private land to cross. The question of handicap accessibility may
prevent us from letting them use our trails, i.e. paving.
Kevin went to the town meeting re: future development of the town. 2 consultants
have been hired. There are 2300 more building lots left in town. Housing
density & the size of houses were discussed. It was noted that empty nesters
and middle income families are soon not going to have any options. The
question of interconnecting the shoreline towns with bike trails was also
discussed at the meeting. Kevin recommends that we have a representative
at these meetings to report back to us.
