other responsibilities.
She'll still keep in contact with the committee and is willing to volunteer
for occasional
work parties. Sandra Porter will assume the position of secretary, along
with Joe Ortoleva.
Correspondance: None
GLCT Report: Sally Richard's position of GLCT representative for
the Westwoods Committee is going
to expire soon. Paul will ask Shelley Green (current GLCT member) if she
would like to join the
WWTC and sit in our meetings every month, representing the GLCT.
Trail Reports:
- Susan
Kukle reports she did some cutting and clearing near the sign board so
it would be more visible
from Route 146. 1 hr total.
- Susan
also reports Mary Richerson and Susan walked the Red Square trail. They
moved branches
and painted on the Red Square trail. 6 hours total.
- Rich
DiNardo reports the empty/broken bottles situation on Cable Rock is getting
out of hand. It's
becoming a large task for one person to handle. Him and Susan Busch put
in 4 hours each during
August cleaning everything. Rich will talk with Police for possible ideas
on how to monitor the
situation. One barrel is damaged. Dia Robinson offered to use her ATV
vehicle to help Rich carry
out the garbage next time. It was agreed that a work party would be scheduled
after the fall time.
Apparently the fall time gets a lot of usage and then clams down over
the winter time.
Old Business:
- Status
of Summer Trail Clearing - Paul reports that blue rectangle, nature trail,
violet trail are open.
Yellow square trail (lower/southern) is open also. Green rectangle trail
needs to be officially open.
Sandra Porter & Peter Johnson cut down several difficult trees on the
green rectangle trail. Green
rectangle trail is now 100% cleared.
- In
total, Paul Proulx, Sandra Porter, and David Scarpace cut down 253 trees
during the summer (172
on orange circle trail and 81 on white circle trail). Paul estimates 2-3
trees fell per hour, on average.
70.5 hours total.
- To
be done: Small section near Lost Lake on white circle. White circle south
of power lines needs
to be done also. Also targeted next will be yellow circle & violet circle
trails. After that, the red
diamond will be targeted so it will eventually connect with orange circle.
- Peter
Johnson reports a large home-made bar set up on the Paul Trail. He will
dismantle it.
New Business:
- Website
- Paul will talk with Bill Johnson for ideas about having a Westwoods
website that keeps
the status of our trail clearing progress. The thought is we can post
which trails are open and
which trails are closed online.
- Guilford
Parade - Bill Blaha has already registered the committee for the parade.
Everyone interested
in walking is to meet at 9:00 AM Sept 21 Saturday at the starting point.
Parade officially
starts off 10:00 AM.
-
Schedule of Meetings for Year - It was agreed upon that June meeting will
be June 9. All other dates
listed by Paul are OK with Committee.
- Dia
Robinson distributed Connecticut Hunting Season Schedules just as F.Y.I.
Next Meeting: Oct
21, is next meeting
