Westwoods Trails Meeting
September 20, 2004

Approval/corrections of minutes: Minutes for June 21, 2004 were approved without corrections.

Resignations/New Members/Members news: No resignations, no new members

CT Forest & Park: Paul Proulx
-The 75th Edition of the CT Forest and Park Trail Guide will be out soon. There will be two editions published, East and West.
-Paul will attend a meeting on October 16th that will include a presentation about the National Scenic Trail Study.
-The annual dinner is coming up on October 7th. Anyone interested should get in touch with Paul Proulx for all the details.

GLCT Report: Susan Kukle
-Stewardship Workshop Saturday October 16th at the Shoreline Outdoor Education Center, rain or shine. Topic: locating boundaries
-Effie Good left her property on Moose Hill to the Guilford Land Trust. This parcel is adjacent to the West woods Violet trail. She has donated several parcels over the years.
-The GLTC fall walk schedule is being put together. The current ideas are Effie Good's land, the Menuncatuck Property, West Woods Green and Yellow trails, Bill Johnson will be choosing something for North Guilford, and the short l oop of the Braemore property.

Trail Reports
Westwoods:
-6 hours (Paul Proulx) Blazing on the White Circle.
-Trails need to be walked to check for blowdowns.
Nut Plains: No report
Paul Trail: No report
Kampmeyer:

-Susan walked the trail and started a discussion about the mud and sections needing bridges. Since there seems to be wet sections year round, these areas need to be assessed for how to deal with the water. This will be done before the next meeting so a work party can be planned.
Eastwoods: No report
Hoadly Creek: 4.5 hours the phragmites were cut back
Spencer Creek: No report.

Past Work Parties: See Hoadly Creek

Future Work Parties:
-There will be regular Sunday cutting sessions this fall. Each Sunday at 10:00am. Call Paul if interested in joining in.
-Need a bridge on the Nature Trail from Dunk Rock Road
-There was a suggestion that a platform for bird watching on the marsh be built on the south side of the train tracks at the end of Sachems Head Road.
-There was a suggestion for the creation of a new trail connecting to the Westwoods from land off Towner Swamp Road. Susan will look into the the parcel and propose the plan to GLCT

Old Business: Matt continues to work on the web. It features history of the system, trail status, and meeting minutes.

New Business:
-Trail assignments have been reviewed and an updated list will be distributed
-A new trail map could include GPS data
-Kevin is working on a monthly walk program for school groups
-Shelley Greene will be initiating a look at trail usage
