The Westwoods
and many of the other trail systems in Guilford are taken care of by a
group called the Westwoods Trails Committee. The meetings for this committee
are in the Community Center at 7:30pm on the third monday of the month.
The dates for all the meetings for this year can be found on the calendar
page. The meetings are open to the public, and new members are encouraged
to come. After a new member's second meeting they will receive a Westwoods
patch, and be proclaimed a full member.
Members currently
on the committee range in age from 15 to over 65, and all have different
backgrounds. So if you were wondering, yes you would fit in.
Work parties
for the month are generally scheduled by the committee during the meeting
for hiking areas that need work. Work parties are not limited to people
able to use a chain saw, and can be as simple as clearing fallen sticks
from the trails or clipping back brush. Any extra pair of hands will allow
the work to get done faster.
Work Parties - see Calendar
Members wanting
to become thoroughly involved will be given a trail to take care of in
one of the trail systems. This entails making sure the trail is walkable
and keeping the blazes visible.
Joining the committee
is not the only way to get involved in helping to keep our woods in good
condition. Simply removing sticks that have fallen on the trail, or picking
up trash is a large help to the committee members.
